There are many ways to print on t-shirts. Depending on the intricacy of your artwork, we will choose the most suitable T-shirt printing method to apply it onto t-shirts. Here at Ark Industries, we use 3 types of T-shirt printing methods.
HEAT PRESS PRINTING
A heat press machine uses pressure and heat over pre-set periods of time to apply the heat transfer material unto apparel. Plotters are used to cut the shapes and artwork out on the vinyls before they are heat pressed unto the apparel. Our heat press printing produces outstanding result with high resolution and vibrant prints. Our heat transfer material comes with our full quality assurance. Choose from a wide range of colours and finishes for your prints, including matt, metallic, glitter and even 3M Scotchlite Reflective Vinyls.
Heat press printing’s digital printing method allows full-coloured artwork to be printed.
Full-coloured artwork refers to artwork which includes multiple colours, gradients, intricate details and photos!
Vinyl prints are great for single colour logos and artwork. Heat press printing’s vinyl printing method is commonly used to print sports teams t-shirts or jerseys which require individual names and numbers. Choose your desired colours from our array of vinyl colours such as matte gold, neon pink or yellow! We do not recommend printing small text or logos using this method of printing. The adhesive surface of the small text or logos may not be sufficient for them to remain pressed on fabric for a long time. Some artwork and logos which have both full-coloured and single colour graphic elements, will require both the digital print and vinyl print types.
Silkscreen printing uses a mesh to transfer ink onto a surface, while a stencil blocks certain areas to create a pattern. This technique can be used on a huge range of materials, with consistent, long lasting results. The heavy ink coverage used in the process also means brighter, more vibrant colours. Silkscreen printing is done in layers of 1 colour each, thus colour separation is required to be done upon receiving the artwork.
Silkscreen printing is a very cost effective print method, recommended for quantities above 20 pieces. Silkscreen prints are soft to touch. The ink bonds to the fabric very tightly and that allows the print to last for a long period of time. However, it is more suitable for designs or artwork with a few solid colours. Artwork should fit within A4, A3 or A2 sizes.
Special effects such as flock prints (suede-like texture), glow-in-the-dark prints, neon prints and reflective prints can also be achieved with silkscreen printing.
For colour accuracy, the artwork should have Pantone colours allocated to each graphic element. This is so that the ink can be prepared in reference to specific shades of colours.
Used mostly for creating customised jerseys and tees, the sublimation printing technique allows for full coloured prints all over the fabric. The colour is permanently absorbed, which means it will not fade off, and gives the fabric a fantastic soft feel. On top of that, sublimation printing allows you to choose from an almost unlimited colour palette, creating brighter and smoother colour variations.
Customise your tees with your choice of colours for the side panels, sleeves and collar. Your design will not be limited to the availability of ready stock tees! The sublimation printing method is commonly used to produce vibrant apparel such as cycling jerseys and bowling polo tees!
Seen a design which you like? Have a vague idea of what your tee should look like? Or do you need a logo for your team?
At Ark Industries, our in-house design team is able to work with customers to create artwork, as well as assist in the preparation of artwork to be print-ready.
In some cases, a trace of a flattened artwork is needed in order to separate the colours and shapes for t-shirt printing.
Depending on the complexity of the artwork such as fine lines, it could take a designer a few minutes or a couple of hours to make the artwork print-ready!
