Silkscreen printing, also known as screen printing, is a popular method for applying designs on apparel such as t-shirts and polo tees. Silkscreen printing is the widely preferred method for printing high quantity orders. As silkscreen printing is done in a way that allows the ink to bond with the fibres of fabric, the print is highly durable and does not peel off easily.
Silkscreen printing works like a stencil, in which the artwork is burned unto a mesh and empty areas are covered with an impervious chemical. After which, ink is applied and pushed through the mesh, onto the t-shirt.
Silkscreen printing works in layers of shapes and colours. Depending on the intricacy of the details in your artwork or logo, different mesh types will be used in the silkscreen printing process. Finer details require finer mesh type in order to print small lines and shapes clearly.
Referring to the physical Pantone Matching System (PMS) Solid Coated colour book, colours are chosen to match the artwork’s colours as accurately as possible. Silkscreen inks are mixed to match the PMS colours for consistency purposes.
Silkscreen printing is not limited to only solid colours. There are special effects which silkscreen printing can produce: High Density prints, Glow-in-the-dark prints, Metallic Prints, Glitter Prints and Clear Gel Prints.
